who we work with. how we roll.

Modern Talk is an in-person and telehealth therapy practice located in the Truckee / Tahoe region, and serving clients in California, Nevada, and Ohio. We have a dedication to good service. We support our clients through our passion for soul-led work. And let's not forget, we approach therapy with a modern perspective; one that doesn't make assumptions or pass judgments; one that meets you where you are. It's the new-old-school therapy, where we approach each client with a motivation for healing, a lens that is different for each person, at any age, and their unique life experiences. We provide a safe space that empowers all to grow, change, and live well.

Hayley Wright, LPCC

Owner + Lead Therapist

"All the questions you have about yourself, like "Why do I do this?" or "How do I change this thing about myself?" or "How do I do this differently or better?" These are the questions I'm here to help you answer."

I am a down-to-earth, wear my heart on my sleeve, ride-or-die for my clients, dark humor loving, EMDR obsessed psychotherapist. I am here to guide, recreate, revive, and grow the mind, body, and soul.

I come from a diverse background that has cultivated a sense of empathy and open-mindedness that is hard to outshine. I can, quite literally, talk to anyone, at any age, and find a way to connect with them. I have a way with people. I can be silly, I can be calm, I can be challenging, and I can be up-lifting. In my practice, I get to watch people use their resiliency to endure and thrive.

The modern world calls for real, modern therapy.

But who is she? You've made it! I'm Hayley, and I'm happy you're here. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California, Nevada, and Ohio. I hold two Master's degrees from Northern Kentucky University -- one Master's of Art in School Counseling, and one Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been a licensed psychotherapist since 2016.

"EMDR obsessed psychotherapist" Yes, it's true. I love EMDR Therapy. EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based treatment therapy that uses rhythmic left-right (bilateral) stimulation to help people recover from all types of problems. Bilateral stimulation, along with focusing on the traumatic memory or experience, reduces the memory's emotional and somatic impact over time. EMDR Therapy can help with trauma (i.e., injuries, abuse, combat, assault, drug addiction, etc.), depression, anxiety, phobias, grief, recurrent nightmares, loss of relationships (including divorce), jealousy, envy, sexual inhibition, and a variety of self-sabotage and self-esteem issues. Basically, EMDR can handle almost anything you throw at it. Do you get why I love it now?

Specialties. My love for EMDR has allowed me to truly specialize in working with all types of trauma (complex and acute) as well as different types of anxiety. I have experience working with medical professionals, teachers, and police. I have also worked with high functioning professionals just dealing with life, but not willing to settle. Due to my experience as a Division 1 soccer player, I have a unique perspective working with professional and highly competitive athletes dealing with performance anxiety or returning to sport after injury. Overall, I personally enjoy working with kids, teens, and adults who find themselves amidst life's many changes and transitions.

My approach to therapy. I like to take a collaborative and humanistic approach to therapy. I love to integrate coaching and counseling together. I have found this approach allows me to tailor each session to each client's needs. In some instances, my clients need more guidance requiring a coaching voice, and sometimes my clients benefit from a counseling perspective where I hold a safe space for them to let loose. So?? Let's do this! Let's grow together! Let's start digging.
